The bus moves to NIMBY https://playapillar.com/2010/07/16/the-bus-moves-to-nimby/ https://playapillar.com/2010/07/16/the-bus-moves-to-nimby/#respond Fri, 16 Jul 2010 02:37:13 +0000 http://playapillar.com/?p=88 Continue reading ]]> We got the bus moved to NIMBY – we had a problem with the radiator fan and nearly overheating on the hills, but it worked.

Now that its in the Bay Area the pace of development should quicken. We’ve already fixed the radiator fan issue and got the old batteries desulfating.

Inaugural Run of Playpillar https://playapillar.com/2010/06/21/inaugural-run-of-playapillar/ https://playapillar.com/2010/06/21/inaugural-run-of-playapillar/#comments Mon, 21 Jun 2010 10:28:16 +0000 http://blackrocktransit.org/?p=33 Continue reading ]]> Black Rock Transits inaugural run happened yesterday.  After several hours of work we were able to convince the handicap ramp to detract and the emergency brakes to release and took the bus for a test drive around the lot.  It worked great,  sounded great and was easy to drive.  Check out the video below.

Next, we’ll be moving it to Oakland so its not a 100 mile trip every time we want to work on the bus.

Prototype of bus shelters go together easily https://playapillar.com/2010/06/21/prototype-of-bus-shelters-go-together-easily/ https://playapillar.com/2010/06/21/prototype-of-bus-shelters-go-together-easily/#comments Mon, 21 Jun 2010 09:03:50 +0000 http://blackrocktransit.org/?p=24 Continue reading ]]> With 4 4×4’s, 3 2×6’s and a 2×4 we managed to construct a prototype of a playa bus shelter.  It has very similar dimensions to a real SF Muni bus shelter and only required a few cuts to construct.  The curved roof was accomplished by using a table saw to cut an angled 1×1 and then bending a thin white 4’x8′ sheet.

Once painted gloss black it should look pretty convincing.
