I got some shots of the MAN MUNI bus in its role in the Italian Job, it even warrants a mention in IMDB.
It played a key role during the helicopter/Mini Cooper car chase when it was being towed across a road under an overpass blocking the path and causing a showdown.
Some quick 3d models of where the ribs can be placed to scale with the doors, hinge and wheel wells.
We got the bus moved to NIMBY – we had a problem with the radiator fan and nearly overheating on the hills, but it worked.
Now that its in the Bay Area the pace of development should quicken. We’ve already fixed the radiator fan issue and got the old batteries desulfating.
Black Rock Transits inaugural run happened yesterday. After several hours of work we were able to convince the handicap ramp to detract and the emergency brakes to release and took the bus for a test drive around the lot. It worked great, sounded great and was easy to drive. Check out the video below.
Next, we’ll be moving it to Oakland so its not a 100 mile trip every time we want to work on the bus.
With 4 4×4’s, 3 2×6’s and a 2×4 we managed to construct a prototype of a playa bus shelter. It has very similar dimensions to a real SF Muni bus shelter and only required a few cuts to construct. The curved roof was accomplished by using a table saw to cut an angled 1×1 and then bending a thin white 4’x8′ sheet.
Once painted gloss black it should look pretty convincing.
